Recently I chatted to LA-based Aussie actor, Alex Cubis, for his NOVA Entertainment podcast, Honest Conversation with Alex Cubis. The call connection was a little inconsistent so excuse the odd lag, but it was a great chat and if you stick around until the end, you’ll hear me go on a rant about getting out there and making things happen for yourself.
“It’s also more than just a ‘bad man’ film. Rather, it’s exploring the fine line between great creative work and cruelty. The director is very much a ‘rockstar’ and you can see his cast wanting to believe his mood swings are the necessary evils of a genius, rather than just being straight evil.
Gullifer does an excellent job of showing this emotional dichotomy through character—it’s the subtle way the protagonist tries to smile politely and nod. We know she’s rationalizing toxic behavior and it makes your stomach turn. So, in the end, when she makes a climatic choice, it’s quite powerful, and, also, inspirational. This is a heavy short, but it also doesn’t really devolve into the overwrought or melodramatic scenes that you’d expect. Moments that could feel too big are handled with restraint.
Gullifer is clearly a talent to watch.”

I am deeply honoured and very grateful to have been awarded the Lexus Australia Short Film Fellowship, presented by Sydney Film Festival.
The Fellowship is the largest cash fellowship for short film in Australia, with up to four Fellowship winners receiving $50,000 each to produce their next short film in 2018, to premiere at the 66th Sydney Film Festival in 2019.
Leading Australian actress Marta Dusseldorp presided over the 2018 selection process as Jury Chair, alongside Sydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley, Lexus Australia Senior Manager, Sales & Marketing, Vin Naidoo, Australian producer Greer Simpkin and President of the Australian Directors’ Guild Samantha Lang.
After more than two-and-a-half years of development on BROKEN LINE NORTH, it's a pretty great feeling to be making this film that I love with my wonderful, talented team who have already supported me so much on this project.
